Of all the rose types sold in the United States, the most popular and best selling would have to be the newcomers-the Knockout Roses. Appearing on the gardening scene several years ago, they've since broken all records for sales of a new rose. Created by rose breeder Bill Radler, the Knockout roses have quite possibly revolutionized the way modern gardeners think of roses.

The 'Knock Out' rose is the best selling rose on the market today mainly because they do not require any special care. They are highly disease resistant, especially against black spots, and they require no pruning, deadheading or winter protection. They are drought-tolerant (my wife has tested this theory), and have a long and generous bloom cycle (every 4-5 weeks). If un-pruned the knock out roses can grow between three to four feet tall, you can keep them at a smaller size with periodic trimming. In the late winter (January or February), cut them back to about 12" to 18" above the ground to prepare for the next year's season.
They named it Knockout for a lot of good reasons.
All roses are beautiful. As performers in your yard the majority tend to fall short of low maintenance. Many rose bushes only flower once a year. Shrub roses are your best bet for low maintenance and reblooming beauty. While there are some great landscape roses available, none of them holds a candle to the Knockout Rose.
